School: Wichita State Source: 4YR
Commit/Drafted: A’s ’22 (10)
Age At Draft: 23.1
Earning All-American honors in 2023, alongside teammate Peyton Tolle, Rodden picked up where he left off a year ago for Wichita State, hitting .371/.474/.701 with 18 doubles, 17 home runs and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 39-to-26. A contact bat with sneaky thump, the switch-hitting middle infielder has a very quick set of hands with the ability to hit the ball where it’s pitched. He has the ability to level off his swing on pitches up in the zone and square the tough strike down. Hitting .296 from the right side and .409 from the left, Rodden’s hit tool projects to carry him at the professional level. Though his stolen base numbers may not indicate it (12-for-15), Rodden is a plus runner, and with professional baseball becoming more speed friendly, expect Rodden’s speed to play a bigger impact in the pro ranks as well. Defensively, Rodden’s keen instincts and quick first step lines him up perfectly for second base, the position he has held down for the Shockers the past two years. Contributing in the outfield is not out of the question and will add versatility to his defensive profile. Rodden, who was drafted in the 10th round last year by the A’s but chose not to sign, has a strong chance to hear his name called sooner this July after increasing his draft stock this season.

BA Grade: 40/High
Track Record: The son of a high school baseball coach, Rodden started his college career at Seminole State (Okla.) JC before transferring to Wichita State. The A’s drafted him in the 10th round after his junior year, but he returned to school and won American Athletic Conference player of the year as a senior. The Mariners drafted him in the fifth round and signed him for a below-slot $200,000. Rodden moved quickly to Low-A Modesto after signing and batted .319 as the Nuts’ leadoff hitter to help them win the California League championship.
Scouting Report: Rodden is a scrappy, undersized player, who plays with a chip on his shoulder. He’s a switch-hitter who gets into a low crouch, chokes up on the handle and makes frequent contact with a quick, level swing from both sides of the plate. He’s an aggressive swinger and doesn’t walk much, but he has the hand-eye coordination to make contact and avoid striking out. He has more power righthanded than lefthanded and projects to be an average hitter whose power manifests in doubles. Rodden is an above-average runner with good instincts and a quick first step at second base. He projects to be an average defender with average arm strength at the keystone and can fill in at shortstop, third base or left field.
The Future: Rodden’s well-rounded toolset and high effort level give him a chance to be a utilityman. He’ll open at High-A Everett in 2024.

School: Wichita State Committed/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 22.2
After two years at Seminole State (Okla.) JC, Rodden stepped onto Wichita State’s campus this season and immediately became the school’s best hitter. The switch-hitter led the team in virtually every offensive category, hitting .338/.441/.653 with 17 home runs and more walks (39) than strikeouts (37). Rodden is a 5-foot-9 second baseman who doesn’t have a whole lot of positional versatility. An average runner, Rodden is an average defender at second, limited only by his fringe-average arm. He makes all the plays and plays like a coach on the field, which makes sense considering his father, Kevin, was a collegiate player and his high school coach. At the plate, Rodden’s short, compact swing generates tons of contact. He’s solid from both sides of the plate, although his power plays a little more to all fields from the left side.
