Track Record: Liranzo fell under the radar in the 2021 international signing class and signed with the Dodgers for $30,000 out of the Dominican Republic. He emerged as a potential steal in the complex leagues and broke out in his full-season debut at Low-A Rancho Cucamonga in 2023. Liranzo hit .272/.400/.562, led the California League with 24 home runs and led all qualified minor league catchers with a .962 OPS. He also guided the Quakes’ pitching staff to the most strikeouts and lowest opponent average in the league.
Scouting Report: Liranzo has a strong, mature body and above-average power from both sides of the plate. He has a smooth, rhythmic lefthanded swing that punishes balls to all fields. His righthanded swing is stiffer, but he has the strength to hit long drives when he connects. Liranzo has solid strike-zone discipline, but he tends to overswing and will swing and miss in the zone. He projects to be a below-average hitter with above-average power and may need to drop his righthanded swing. Liranzo is a solid receiver and blocker who moves well behind the plate. He has plus arm strength and the ability to throw runners out from multiple arm angles, although his accuracy is inconsistent. He projects to be an average defender overall.
The Future: Liranzo holds promise as a potential power-hitting catcher, but he has to prove he can make enough contact against better pitching. He’ll aim to do that at High-A Great Lakes in 2024.
