Track Record: Arroyo starred for Colombia’s junior national teams at tournaments across the globe as a teenager to emerge as one of the top prospects in the 2022 international signing class. The Mariners signed him on Jan. 15, 2022, for $1.375 million, the largest bonus ever given to a Colombian amateur. Arroyo hit a team-best .314 in his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League and hit his way out of the Arizona Complex League after four games in his U.S. debut in 2023. He joined Low-A Modesto and helped lead the Nuts to the California League championship, highlighted by going 5-for-5 in the clinching game of the semifinals.
Scouting Report: Arroyo is a mature, confident hitter who is highly advanced for his age. He is unfazed by high velocity or quality breaking stuff and makes consistent contact with a fast, compact righthanded swing. He stays balanced through his swing and has the preternatural ability to manipulate his hands and get the barrel to all parts of the zone. He can be too aggressive at times, but he stays in the strike zone and projects to be an above-average hitter. Arroyo isn’t the biggest player, but he’s strong in his 5-foot-10 frame and hits the ball hard to all fields. He projects to rack up doubles and could grow into 15-home run power as he learns to elevate more. Signed as a shortstop, Arroyo’s defense at second base is less polished. He’s a fringy runner with a stocky build and lacks fluidity in his actions. His hands are just OK and he struggles to make backhanded plays. He projects to be a fringy second baseman and finished the year as a DH for Modesto.
The Future: Arroyo projects to be a bat-first, everyday second baseman. His youth and hitting ability have made him a popular trade target for opposing teams.

Track Record: Arroyo spent most of his youth representing Colombia at international tournaments across the globe, including in the United States, Panama, Mexico and the Bahamas, and established himself as one of the top players in the 2022 international class. The Mariners signed him on the first day of the 2022 signing period for $1.375 million, the largest bonus given to a Colombian amateur. Arroyo immediately impressed team officials when he reported to the Mariners' Dominican complex and continued to stand out in his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League. He hit a team-best .314 and had nearly as many walks (27) as strikeouts (33).
Scouting Report: Arroyo is an exceptionally mature hitter for his age. He has a preternatural feel for the strike zone, is extremely disciplined and quickly adjusts to different velocities and pitch types. He rarely chases out of the zone and does a good job of identifying pitches to drive. Arroyo has quick hands and generates a lot of contact with a short, direct swing from the right side. He can manipulate the barrel and covers the entire plate, giving opponents few zones to attack and helping him project to be a plus hitter. Arroyo doesn't hit the ball overly hard, but he has room to get stronger and his balls carry well off the barrel. Arroyo is firmly a bat-first player. He is a shortstop now, but he's an average runner with fringy range who will be stretched at the position as he matures. He is a reliable defender with solid hands and an average arm and should be an average defensive second baseman.
The Future: Arroyo's swing mechanics and overall skill set draw frequent comparisons with Howie Kendrick. He projects to be a similarly contact-driven second baseman and will make his U.S. debut in the Arizona Complex League in 2023.

Arroyo was the top-paid player out of Colombia this year, signing for $1.375 million. Arroyo is an offensive-oriented shortstop with some of the best plate discipline in his international class. Not only does he recognize pitches well and not chase much off the plate, he makes good swing decisions to hunt for pitches in zones that are conducive to his swing path. With quick hands and a compact stroke, Arroyo makes frequent contact in games, using the whole field with what might always be a hit-over-power approach, but a chance to grow into average power. A shortstop for now, Arroyo's defense would be stretched thin there, but he could develop into an average defender at second or third base, with average speed and arm strength. -
